The FAL is not an assault rifle. Its a battle rifle, or so the people who determine these things say. A battle rifle is an implement that fires a full power cartridge, is usually not select fire, and generally has less ammo capacity. An assault rifle has select fire capabilities, fires an intermediate cartridge, and usually has higher mag capacity.

I own 2500743 (the earliest of the 20 though the numbers aren't sequential in that batch). Gun South didn't open its Trussville offices until early 1984ish. I know personally of 2500688 which is a GSI Trussville marked rifle, 55 SNs earlier than the Katsenes I own, though apparently imported at a much later date.Since the receiver itself isn't cut for the auto sear, this modification is probably unnecessary. The tool bag strap has clips on each end so I can attach the strap to the paracord loops.
