Since 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has recognized students across the country for their academic achievement through the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). NMSP is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships, and approximately 1.6 million high school students enter the program each year.
Each year, millions of American high school students take the Preliminary SAT, a standardized test whose highest scorers are recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).
Approximately 1,000 distinguished high school seniors have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 136 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.
